Small house Autumn house tour
There is no better way to welcome this season than with a colorful door wreath. Find the tutorial here
Warmer colors, cooler temperatures, cozy rooms and pumpkin everything; these are some of the things I love the most about Autumn. Even though we don't see the change of seasons here in Miami, there is a certain " je ne sais quoi" in the air that brings a different mood and ambiance around our home.

Although Halloween is a couple of weeks away, smiley pumpkins are starting to show around our home.
Today I'm sharing some scenes of how I've incorporated Autumn around our small house. From touches of orange and gold to soft greens all go in harmony with the neutral palette I usually use.

Some faux fruits in the colors of the season are adorning our mantel in the most simplest way.

When in doubt, I bought lots of pumpkins in different sizes. They make the whole space look so whimsy!

On our small abode, the living room and dining room are one next to the other. In order to make a soft transition and to avoid making this area feel crowded; I stayed with my neutral palette. Some acorns served as a sweet reminder of this season..

Gray and aqua for Fall, no matchy-matchy here

Gray and aqua for Fall decor

Adding a personal touch to your home is not that difficult. Think about the colors that you like, what decor style grabs your attention or even materials like wood, glass or metal. For me a palette of neutrals that might include soft grays and sand colors and maybe rustic touches, characterize my style and hence my home decor.

Once again I've changed the decor of our master room to a more subtle/cozy one now that Fall has begun. Tones of grays and aqua will be the colors that will set the tone of this room.
And because I didn't want anything to be too "matchy-matchy", I incorporated patterns and the soft texture of velvet with the pillows to create that interesting look.

I strongly believe that aqua and gray were meant to be together for ever! Don't you think?

Adding a personal and memorable touch to the master room

Personalized bedroom with gallery wall

I've had a big blank wall on our master room for awhile now that really bothered the eye each time I had to look on that direction. Initially I was going for a mirror, then a piece of art work but the idea of making it special and personal got stuck in my head.

I love taking pictures, so I thought that there wasn't any other perfect way to incorporate my passion for photography with the love of a mother into a gallery wall. Since I wanted this wall to be a focal point but at the same time to add a subtle touch to the whole aesthetic of our room; I decided to create a grid of frames (these are from BHG at Walmart, find them here) of the same size and style. This arrangement can easily be left on 6 frames (by eliminating the last row) but because I wanted to cover most of the blank space, I went for the lucky number 9.
I wasn't going to break my head with numbers and calculations so what I did was to create a big X by taping from each corner a long tread to the opposite side. This gave me the exact point of the center of this wall and where I placed the first frame. From there on, all I did was to measure 4" from each side which gave the exact position of the next frame. To make sure the frame wasn't leaning more to one side, I use a small level.

For the photos, I printed them on black and white to make them more eye grabbing and without any white border in 5"x 7" format.

I have to say that besides adding a personal touch to our room, this wall has a very deep sentiment to us. It is where our hearts hang and a reminder of what a beautiful family we've been blessed with. Share with me your thoughts on how you personalize your home.

Organic pumpkin spice latte, the favorite drink of this Autumn season

Sep 2, 2015

Organic Pumpkin Spice Latte

While I love to decor for this season, all its colors and textures, I also adore the taste of food during Fall. One of the most iconic beverages starting on September is the "Pumpkin Spice Latte". I've found a recipe online and made a couple of changes to adapted to my taste. It was very easy to do and oh so tasty!

Organic Pumpkin Spice Latte

Pour 2 tablespoons of organic canned pumpkin on a small microwave proof container. Add 1/2 teaspoon of pumpkin spice and a dash of black pepper, mix. Put on microwave for 30 seconds and mix again with whisk. Add 2 tablespoons of brown sugar, mix once again and place on microwave for 30 seconds more until it has a syrupy consistency.
In another container, froth 1 cup of milk (I used +Lactaid) and 1 tablespoon of vanilla (you can use more if you like). Prepare 1 to 2 shots of espresso depending on how strong you like your coffee (on mine I used 2) and add the mix of pumpkin (almost 3 tablespoons), mix together. Pour the frothed milk, some whipped cream and dust with some more pumpkin spice and you're done!

Hope you enjoy this easy to do warm drink and let me know what are some of your favorites for this Autumn season.
