Halloween living room decor: simple and fast ideas

Oct 12, 2016

Although there's still some weeks before Halloween, I feel that this time around I started to decorate too late. Still I'm proud to say that I managed to finish at least the living room and front of the house. My approach this year was a simple one, recycling accessories from last year and just adding very small details.

To start off, I bought at Amazon some PVC transparent butterflies to add to my door wreath. These were so beautiful, I ended up using them almost everywhere; on the mirror over my mantle, over some plastic skulls to subtle their look, etc.

Another thing I did to make things interesting was to draw over our entryway mirror a shattered effect. This took almost no time and was so fun to play with. While looking at a Google image of shattered glass, I was able to draw something similar over our mirror with the use of some markers (white and black) from Michaels and a Crayola Window Crayons.

Love the glass dome piece from +HomeGoods which will quickly grab my guests attention to the little mouse inside.
I also replaced the Fall decoration (see the before here) of my Clancy wood urn planter from Home Decorators, for some spookier options.

Plastic large and mini bats are both hanging around our living room but the part that I love the most are the monster hands that seem to come out of the wall above the mantle. These "Creepy Hands with Lanterns" are from Grandin Road and I love how good and almost real they look. I used some "Spanish Moss" from one of our trees to add an eerie look to this area. I also added to this wall some floating bat decals which I found at the one dollar area at Target.
All and all I think that simplicity was the key in this area. Some spooky elements and normal decor was all I needed to add to our living room a creepy/classic look.
Are you planning on decorating for Halloween or just leave your Autumn decor as is?
