Gatherings from the garden for a sweet arrangement

Garden flower gatherings for an arrangement

After many days of rain, finally today we were able to enjoy a bright sunny weather outside. This morning and while strolling through my garden and watching in amazement how fast some of the flowers have grown, the idea of having a small portion of this view struck me! Because my interest has always being of bringing some of those instances of the outdoors inside, today I cut some simple flowers from my garden to create small but sweet arrangements.

Small white roses, Diamond Frost Euphorbia, Dwarf Pentas and some Lemon Grass leaves (all from my local The Home Depot) were the cuts that I "borrowed" from my garden. I made small mixed arrangements and placed them in water; one inside a galvanized lantern over our dinning table (find a similar lantern here) and the other inside a candle holder (from BHG at Walmart).

After adding some fern leaves to the candle holder, I placed the small vase with the flower arrangement inside and added water to keep the ferns fresh for a longer time.
It is amazing how some simple flower can take this effortless look to a new level. Don't be afraid to experience with a mix of whatever you already have in your garden. You'll be surprise how easy it was to create and how good the arrangement will end up looking. Have you played with your flowers lately?

Make a summer statement with candles (Giveaway)

May 5, 2015

Small details always make a big difference when decorating a space. In our patio makeover we needed a soft illumination late night gatherings. I already had some hooks for plants so what I really wanted was something I could hang and that didn't have to be plugged to an outlet.
I found from BHG at Walmart these candle holders with a cute rope for hanging. These small jars with a beachy look and feel were the perfect small detail I needed for the patio.

Because I wanted a soft illumination, I opted for small battery operated candles (you can find similar ones here). To add more interest to the candle holders, I placed pieces of driftwood inside; but sand can be also a great option.

I love how versatile these candle holders are. I can also pour some water and put flowers on them, but also prepare them with fabric napkins and a basic silverware for a personalized patio dinner. Don't you just love how simple yet beautiful these look? What would you used them for?

I'm having a great giveaway of a $100 Walmart gift card from the wonderful people of BHG at Walmart. Just leave a comment and I will randomly select one lucky winner on May 8, 2015 (winners must be U.S. residents and at least 18 years old). Good luck!

A quick checklist when hosting a patio hangout

May 4, 2015

They say that Summer is just sitting there in the corner, but with the burning weather we've been having in Miami, I'm guessing the hottest season of the year has just arrived. Because we love taking the girls out on the patio, where they can run free and do as many cartwheels as they want; I've prepare a fun outdoor checklist for a quick (out-of-the-blue) hangout.

Add a water element: I've found a simple but extremely fun Beach Ball Sprinkler from Little Tikes at Walmart. Just inflate and plug in the hose and let the little ones enjoy while you watch near by with lemonade at hand. This will keep them busy for hours.

Decorate to your surroundings: I brought a beachy feeling to our patio by hanging some candle holders from BHG at Walmart and adding led battery operated candles (similar ones found here) and some pieces of driftwood. Love the look during the day but also used them at night for a relaxed candle lit mood.

Another key element that brought that sand and sea feeling was the Cool Stripe Tablecloth from BHG at Walmart. The beautiful bright colors instantly transported me to a seaside over at Greece.

Keep them dry in style: While the weather is hot here, my girls like to keep dry and warm from time to time during their patio hangout. I found some beach jumbo towels with beautiful designs and colors that match excellently with the rest of my decor. You can find these from BHG at Walmart here and here.

These beautiful galvanized tray and clear bowls are from BHG at Walmart.
Beverages and snack: Of course one of the most important parts of a hot day hangout are the cold beverages and quick snacks. Keep them hydrated by placing an ice bucket with water bottles (or their favorite juice) and a simple fruit salad. Tortilla chips and Iced Tea are also a winner combo in this house.
For lots of fun and great memories you don't have to go far, just think out of the box and keep in mind this "Checklist when hosting a patio hangout". What is your favorite summer hangout? Do you prefer picnics or the beach?

A contemporary dressed wall in the kitchen

Kitchen wall galleries with a function

Blank walls are not my favorite thing to stop and stare. No matter if they have been colored or not, walls (for me) are meant to be decorated. Either with paper or accents they speak of the people that live around them; what their lifestyles are like and even allows us to get an intimate look at their possessions.

In our house we used to have one of those mute walls in the kitchen. It really made me feel desperate each time I went by it and saw that blank space. I knew I needed something that, besides bringing in some life, would also be functional. I've thought of painting it all with chalk paint but having this only wall in our small kitchen painted, probably would've make the space feel smaller. Then I thought about a gallery wall!

These types of walls allow us to be creative but also generate a personal statement in the room. Because this wall was in the kitchen, a place for writing was a must. I found at Birchlane an industrial blackboard that had the perfect dimensions for this wall. To balance the size of this piece and to add the decor factor, I added 2 wood art pieces of different sizes: a world map and an utensil kitchen print (both also from Birchlane). The round mirror in the center brought some clarity to this whole composition besides allowing us to take a quick peek before going out.

Some other accessories made this wall gallery picture perfect and me, a happy cook! Do you have a wall/art gallery in your home? What wall did you used for it?

I've received compensation by Birch Lane. The opinions stated here are my own. For more updates on their products and decor ideas, you can always follow them Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter and Instagram. Remember to take advantage of their free shipping when you buy $49 or more.
