Getting the best out of one bedroom for 3 kids

I'm so honored to be part of the BHG Live Better Network where, as a blogger, I've received compensation by BHG at Walmart. The opinions stated here are my own. For more updates on their products and decor ideas, you can always follow them on FacebookPinterest, Twitter and Instagram.

When faced with the challenge of making the most out of one bedroom for my 3 daughters, the first thing that came into my mind was the age difference. While one of them is a tween, the other two are just curious preschoolers who love playing around and believe they truly are princesses. I confess I might have inspired them to think like that.

So with the limitation of space, there was only one way to go when thinking about beds: either up with bunkbeds or to the sides with trundles. Knowing my little ones so well, and anticipating their Rapunzel’s tower reenactment, I opted for beds that will easily open and close when needed. While searching for these types of beds, I was pretty amazed when I found “Better Homes and Garden Kids Panama Beach Twin Captain's Bed with Trundle” at Walmart. Its clean lines design and the additional 3 drawers for storage were certainly details that called my attention. This bed, also in gray color, as you just read comes with the trundle included within its amazing price; this was very hard to obtain in other stores I searched since almost all sell the trundle part separately.
These beds just took a couple of minutes to assemble and felt incredibly sturdy. The trundle part glided in and out without any trouble and my two preschooler princesses loved it (read “excitedly jumped”).

After all the excitement ended, it was time to find the bedding. As universally known, girls naturally tend to gravitate towards the color pink (aka Barbie color or Pinkalicious pink); so finding one that actually met their expectations and mine, was another challenge only us moms dare to face. The new kids’ line from Better Homes and Gardens at Walmart has an amazing assortment of beautiful bedding designs. For the girls’ bedroom I chose a “Ruched Dot Beding Comforter Set” because I can mix its pattern with others especially if in the future I wanted to go wild with different sheets. This comforter set came with a pillow sham and a decorative owl pillow (not shown) and I added some extra pillows with some glitz and positive vibes for a more girly look.

To draw that imaginary limit line, I used a 5’x7’ “Better Homes and Gardens Border Stripe Textured Print Rug”  in gray which besides matching the color of the ”BHG Basket Weave Grommet Window Panels”, they serve as an excellent scenario for the girls to dance and play.

I knew that if I created a corner for my tween daughter to study, the little ones would strongly emphasize the fact that they also needed a place they could sit and “pretend” to read. Taking into consideration the size of this room, a table for them would’ve been just a crazy though if it wasn’t for the “Better Homes and Gardens Kids' Metal Table” I found at Walmart. Its size was perfect (27.5” x 27.5” x 20”) and I was able find some matching cute chairs also from Better Homes and Gardens at Walmart that look just like a miniature Tolix chair.

Love the design of the Better Homes and Gardens Traditional Task Lamp I found at Walmart. It is perfect size for my daughter's desk and adds just a touch of vintage flair to this area.
Now that we’re finally back to school, it was fit for my girls to have a set room where they can come home and study or just to hang around (besides sleeping, of course!). As you can see I was able to create a comfortable and functional space no matter the size limitations and where the age difference seems to dissipate. I know they are more than exited to have their room redone since for some reason, sleeping time has suddenly started earlier!

Key elements to recreate the modern farmhouse style

Aug 10, 2016

Modern Farmhouse key elements

I'm so honored to be part of the BHG Live Better Network where, as a blogger, I've received compensation by BHG at Walmart. The opinions stated here are my own. For more updates on their products and decor ideas, you can always follow them on FacebookPinterest, Twitter and Instagram.

Ever since I discovered the program “Fixer Upper” and Joanna Gaines’ style, I’ve fell in love with the modern farmhouse d├ęcor. The simplicity and clean look of this kind of decoration and recycled/reused approach of this style is something I can relate to.
Although I live in a 1938 house with a Mediterranean Revival style, which has somewhat evolved through the years; I wouldn't mind adding some touches inspired in this new trend of modern farmhouse in the hopes of adding personality to any space.
Since I’m new to this style, I’ll start with a small area in our home; the tv room. This space is where we spend most of our time and where the girls like to express their creativity when it comes to scattering their toys around. So trying to keep everything organized and tidy will be one big challenge.

Modern Farmhouse key elements

In the past I used a small console that my father helped me build, to conceal all the kids mess; but with all the puzzles and school stuff somehow it suddenly became too small. I found a wider more spacious version called “Oxford Square TV Stand and Console” from BHG products at Walmart and to my surprise, it fits amazingly in this room. Its grayish blue color and tempered glass doors gives it a subtle vintage look.
Other items I found that added that farmhouse look to our TV room were a couple of "glass lanterns with the hemp rope handle". These pieces are a versatile accent since they will display many things from candles to flowers or even a cute terrarium. I’ve used these many, many times and in different parts of our home and each time I fall even more in love with these lanterns.

Talking about lanterns, my new acquisition is the "Domed Metal Outdoor Lantern" from BHG at Walmart. I know these are made to stand inclement weather, but I couldn’t resist hanging one in our TV room. My initial thought was to use it as a plant holder, but since I couldn’t find the right hanging plant, I ended up placing 3 battery operated candles. Sometimes thinking out of the box can bring interesting results!

Rustic wood is also used when decorating with this style in mind and the “Distressed Wood Finish Turned Floor Lamp” from BHG at Walmart added the perfect dose of farmhouse to this area. Galvanized metal is another strong element I’ve seeing repeatedly in many interiors. Accessories made in this material don’t have to be big to make their presence count. To display the beauty of my new eucalyptus plant, I used a BHG Galvanized Round Bin found at Walmart a couple of months ago. I think these two make a perfect pair!

I couldn’t finished this area without adding a couple of more traditional decorative pillows but with that farmhouse vibe. These neutral colored pillows add texture to our sofa without overcrowding the setting. Both the “FloralStamp Pillow” and the “Pinwheel Decorative Pillow” are also from BHG at Walmart.
Shiplap aside, a modern farmhouse look can be achieved with some key accessories. Have you tried this style in your own home? Which are your favorite accents when recreating this Joann Gaines inspired trend?

A mattress fit for princesses

Jul 31, 2016

Let me tell you about these princesses adventures. These little ladies love dancing all day. They don't have time to skip a beat, so off they go and dance their way. These ladies enjoy play time too much so day and night their giggles are all we know.

But all this hard work comes with a price and their naps are precious to these little ones. You see, princesses skins are soft and delicate so when it comes to down time, they prefer a soft and comfy mattress to help them recharge their energy.

Aveline matresses from LexMod are incredibly comfortable and besides jumping and dancing, my little princess enjoy their beauty sleep here as well. These mattresses are delivered in a small box and it is a treat to see them unfold once the bag is open.

I would like to thank LexMod for sending this piece of furniture. The opinions stated here are my own. For more updates on their products and decor ideas, you can always follow them on Facebook, Pinterest and Instagram

Summer blog hop 2016; my decor highlights

Summer 2016 decor highlights

Hello there and welcome to this Summer 2016 Tour (blog hop). Hope you've enjoyed Amie's amazing taste when it comes to decor in her blog Meme-Hill. Also Oscar's elegant style and his attention to details in his blog Oscar Bravo Home. And of course Amy's spectacular home in her blog Crazy Chic Design.
For me, Summer has always been one of those seasons that I prefer to go light when it comes to my decor. Here in Miami heat is always intense and because of this I prefer having elements that give an airy feeling to my home.

Summer 2016 decor highlights

Inside I opt for most things white. Sheer curtains are one of the first things that I change when transitioning to Summer. They give that appearance of a light and breezy space.
Another thing I love to bring into my Summer decor are beach elements like these fishing weights.
Recycled glass vases and hurricane candle holders also come in to play on this seasonal setting.

When choosing elements for my interior decor I try to keep things light; but for my outdoor area, I enjoy adding plants to my surroundings. Green is always my "to-go" color because it feels fresh every time we go out.
