My favorite part of this chest (besides its beautiful color) are the teardrop pulls from Hobby Lobby. |
Making a budget friendly room transformation is not that difficult. With some inexpensive art, some paint and a new comforter set I was able to change the whole look of our master bedroom. On my previous post I stated that the the furniture was making this room appear smaller that what it really was: it was a dark chocolate color and the chests were too tall for the space.
I knew this piece of furniture had to go, but I needed a similar (perhaps smaller) option with a comfortable price tag. Knowing that Ikea never fails, it only took me a visit to find the perfect Tarva drawer chest. Because it was made of natural solid wood the painting options were unlimited.
To make the big change, I went with some wood stains; the first couple of coats were in Minwax “Classic Gray”, and two more coats in Verathane “Golden Oak” both available at The Home Depot.

I love how the grains of the wood still show through the tint. |
A change of drawer pulls was all that it needed to be completed. I found some vintage looking ones at Hobby Lobby and they had this perfect teardrop style which I completely love.
Our new drawers look spectacular and the color went perfect with my HomeGoods lamps and Kenroy Home Reyes mirror.
Let me know what you think of this chest transformation. As always I LOVE reading all your comments.

February 26, 2015 at 2:37 amHello Jill and thanks for the visit. I haven't dealt with dark furniture pieces yet but the benches I used as nighstands on my previous post were gray-ish. I only sanded them and then used wood stain. Hope this helps a bit.
