Holiday decorating ideas for the girls’ room

Usually when we think about Christmas decorations the first couple of places that come to mind are the living room, master bedroom, porch and tablescapes. But this year I wanted to give my daughters’ bedroom a sort of “Winter Wonderland” decor through the holiday season. While this sounded like a challenging thing to do given the fact that it’s a small room for three girls, I went in anyway keeping in mind that “less is better”.

I love welcoming people to my home with a seasonal wreath and for these princesses’ room I used one made with balls of yarn and some jingle bells. To make it more whimsical I added a big wooden reindeer in the middle.

Some small changes made a great difference in this room’s look and I started by adding some acrylic tree ornaments to the chandelier. This simple change was able to quickly transform the mood in this space and was one of the first things that my 5 years old noticed. These adornments that I found at HomeGoods, came in a box of three and I simply replaced two of the crystals from the lamp with these beautiful snowflakes.

Another thing I did to bring in a Holiday cheer into my daughters’ bedroom was to replaced the decorative pillows. While I kept a soft and similar palette from the previous setting, I chose pillows that had some sparkly details. Also the fabric played another important role in my selection, hence the use of velvet and taffeta. The golden border on the European pillow, the decorative beads that form snowflakes over the small gray pillows and the minimalist hexagram stars in the soft pink one made my trio the perfect complement for their beds. All these pillows were also a great HomeGoods find!
My daughters can’t get enough of these velvet throws. These are incredibly soft and the jumbo pom-poms gives them that “oh-my-gosh-how-cute” factor.

A small wooden reindeer also served as an adornment hanging on the side of the beds. This is a smaller version of the one in the wreath I placed on the door.

At one moment I thought about placing a Christmas tree on the girls’ room. A beautiful pencil one with many lights and a soft palette as well; but then again I thought about the countless times I’ll have to go inside the room at nights to stop them from playing around with the ornaments… not a good idea! So, lucky for me I found at +HomeGoods some small trees with a similar design to the wreath and placed them over the side tables with a cute little polar bear figure.

Over my eldest daughter’s desk I placed some cute sparkling lights from +IKEA USA and a reindeer figure. All these small details really set a “Winter Wonderland” mood without overcrowding the space.

Other details that I enjoyed adding were a unicorn head with a set of reindeer antlers to add a magical feeling into the reading corner. Also some led string lights came very handy to decorate over the desk.
Needless to say the girls were very happy to come home to their room but specially to opening and closing the door (yeap… I love the sound of the jingle bells…not !)
