Fall home tour: cool colors and warm textures

Welcome to my fall home tour. So happy to see you all coming from Designs by Laila’fascinating home. I know she must have provided you with incredible ideas for your home decor.

We all know summer is just about to end, and I’m so ready for cooler (or perhaps, less hellish) temperatures. Although we won’t feel those low 70° F for a while here in Miami, changing my home’s style will certainly bring in the feeling of those desired weather conditions.

Because this past season has been so hot, this time around I’ve decided on a cooler palette of grays combined with textures to add warmth and interest. Starting from my front door, you’ll quickly notice my fabric pumpkins wreath (from HomeGoods) that will give you a better idea of this year’s look and feel.

I also updated our wall shelves by adding some of fall‘s most iconic pieces like pumpkins, pears and some silk fall leaves (we don’t get real ones in this area but these from Pottery Barn look amazing).

As you can see, wood was the main character in most of the pieces I used throughout this setting.

Never our new futon/sofa from The Novogratz, I combined several decorative pillows with an array of interesting visual textures (all from HomeGoods). These are in gold, gray with an intricate stitching and a dark sand color with a patterns very similar to cane (a wood-like material used on antique chairs).

Outdoor lanterns can be used inside and be filled with harvest inspired items like these wheat stalks and some mini paper pumpkins (both from HomeGoods).

One of my favorite items this year were these lanterns from Better Home & Gardens at Walmart. I’ve used these on our patio before, but this time I’m using them inside by filling them with pumpkins and some wheat stalks for a different look.

I’ve went ahead and set our HomeDecorator‘s table with a simple fall decor. This dough bowl from Pottery Barn has been such a versatile accessory in our decor. In the past I’ve used it as a cradle for flowers, I’ve decorated it with some faux succulents and even placed Christmas ornaments inside of it. For this table, I’ve placed some plastic pumpkins and a couple of wheat stalks for a quick and effortless centerpiece.

Around this I used my Ashmore plates from Better Homes & Gardens at Walmart over the faux wood chargers. These ceramic leave mini-plates (from the dollar spot on Target) added interest on this setting. I also wrapped the flatware with Trader Joe’s “Fearless Flyer” and added a simple wheat stalk. These little details make the table setting more interesting and give guests something to talk about.

Since it is so early in the season there are other areas in our home that I’m still working on. I’ll be sharing these soon with you all. In the meantime, go visit Joan from 2 Ladies & A Chair. I’m sure you’ll fall in love with her style!
