I’m so honored to be part of the BHG Live Better Influencer Network where, as a blogger, I’ve received compensation from Better Homes & Gardens at Walmart. The opinions stated in Our new breakfast nook with storage area are my own. Let’s be honest, in a house full of kids keeping things organized sometimes feels like an unattainable goal. When it comes to the tv room, things can get nasty! Toys under the sofa, old food crumbs everywhere, legos strategically placed all over the floor and the list goes on and on. I’ve sometimes asked myself, why not enclosure this room and get rid of the problem. But no, I’m gonna face my fears and design a space that we all can enjoy. I decided on creating a new breakfast nook with storage area (form and function).
Moving out the big pieces
In this room, we used to have a large chesterfield style sofa that was taking too much space. After selling it, I was left with a great area to create our breakfast nook.
We first started by painting this area white for a fresher look and a more ample feel. To add a focal point, I covered the tv wall with a “peel and stick” wallpaper I found at Walmart.
Blinds for day or night
Another great improvement in this room were the Better Homes & Gardens 2″ Faux-Wood Window Blinds. It was incredible how these helped in visually augmenting the size of this room. During the day I love to keep them slightly open to make this room feel warm and bright. But at night I can easily close these blinds for privacy.
Seasonal wall art
All those precious kid paintings and drawing that flooded our fridge seasonally, now have a hall of fame. Using some inexpensive photo frames (find some great option here and here) in different sizes I was able to give a proper area to all the art. Now all I have to do is change them during the season for a fresh artist exposition.
My dreamed breakfast nook
This corner is my new favorite corner. The light through the day feels amazing here and the furniture pieces are so comfortable. For this, I joined two Better Homes & Gardens 3-Cube Organizer Bench using a piece of white MDF from my local hardware store. I measured the sides and used pieces of 2×4 that would hold the MDF piece. I will later create a seating cushion but in the meantime, some pillows decorate this corner beautifully.
For the backrest, I crafted two pieces using foam and an inexpensive fabric from Walmart.
Storing most of the toys that were in this area was a breeze using Better Homes & Gardens Grey Large Collapsible Bins. The size of these is perfect and now all those big blocks, tiny lego pieces, family board games have their place.
A 32″ roundtable (from Walmart) was perfect for this corner as well as the Better Homes & Gardens Collin Silver Dining Chairs.
I’m loving our new breakfast nook with storage area so much! I can now sit here peacefully while using my computers and my girls really love how this area works for them. They now even play-pretend supermarket cashier here and have so much fun. Do you have a favorite area that doubles as a storage place?

April 29, 2021 at 9:16 amHi there! This is an old post and the video I shared on IG is no longer available. Basically I added a piece of wood with a couple of 2×4 underneath it for support. These 2×4 pieces were nailed to the wall and the two benches. Hope this helps to clarify.

April 28, 2021 at 5:20 pmThis is the bench set up I was looking for. Thanks for the great pictures. I will be using the four cube bench seat & the three cube bench seat for my project. Will loose at least one full cube in the corner. I am not planning to build a corner box. Eventually I would like to get thicker French style cushions custom made for it.
