As a blogger, I was contacted by Orchard Supply Hardware Store to share some tips on organization and decor. Although I’ve received compensation, my opinions stated in Old garage gets a fresh look are my own. For more updates on their products you can always follow them on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
We’ve been living now on our 1938 Miami house for more than 4 years now. As many of you might know, the houses around this city tend to be small, so one of my main focus all these years have been to make the most our or our living space. Our family of five surely has many stuff to store and most of it ends in our garage. From Christmas decorations to beach stuff, we have simply too much but it’s about time this old garage gets a fresh look.
Check the Insta Story I created a couple of weeks ago and see the before.
Let’s roll and brush
A fresh coat of paint never fails! When we first bought this house the garage had two colors: dark beige and vanilla. Up until a couple of days ago it had stayed like that. We never thought much of it but because I wanted a feeling of openness in this area, I decided to paint this all in white.
The transformation was impressive and it made this garage feel more open and cleaner.
Out of sight, out of wry
Most of the things I had in our garage were scattered in different places. While it might’ve look sort of organized, it was still an eye sore to see trinkets and detergents all around this area. At Orchard Supply Hardware Store I found two large cabinets that helped in keeping most of these things store and organized. I used one for all my decor/craft supplies and the other one for paint, sport stuff and general items. Now all I see is beauty and organization!
Another storage solution that never fails are plastic containers. I already had some but needed a couple more to store new Christmas accessories that were still hanging around. I found my 27 gallon ones at Orchard Supply Hardware Store and decided to spray paint black the red handles to go with the rest of the elements.
A mini detergent cabinet from Orchard Supply Hardware Store also came handy in our garage’s fresh look.
Tools at hand
We did a fun weekend project to keep most of my husband’s power tools at hand. Using some leftover wood pieces as backing, we placed a pegboard on the wall and used metal hooks (Orchard Supply Hardware Store sells an assorted box of these hooks to hang almost anything). This project not only helped in keeping some of the most used tools ready to go, but also gave this corner a more personal look. My husband loved it!
Another pegboard was installed behind the table saw to keep our patio tools also at hand. Before this they were all scattered around our garage… and hard to find!
After moving around many of this garage’s mayor storing pieces and getting rid of unused elements, this area now looks amazing and so organized. We have mayor plans for this area (maybe a new and bigger kitchen in the near future) but for now, having a place for everything and some space left to walk; is all we need. Is your garage your preferred storing place or do you use it for your car (or both)?
