Setting a fall mood in the living room

The minute my phone’s calendar changes to September 1, pumpkin spice latte and cozy decor ideas invade my soul. Fall has always been my favorite season because it feels like time starts to slow down. Decor takes a softer approach and almost every way I look there’s a welcoming warm feeling. Setting a fall mood in the living room is the first thing I jot down in my agenda. Keep on reading to find out how I do it and follow up with the list of blogger friends who are also sharing some inspiring fall ideas on their blogs.

Fragrances and aromas

One of the first things I like to do when setting a fall mood in the living room is to incorporate fragrances and aromas. If you’re not into decorating your home (just yet) for this season, try lighting up some candles. Bringing in pleasant scents like Warm Pumpkin Cookies or Farm Apple Pumpkin will add to that comfort feeling you want to create in your home.

If you’re feeling a little more daring and want to move those aromas into your kitchen, try my Organic Pumpkin Spice Latte recipe here.

Wool pillows

A quick way to transform your living room and to bring in that cozy feeling is by changing the decorative pillows. Put away all those bright colors from summer and replace them with the warmth of neutral wools. The Marlow Pillow Collection from Grandin Road is just what this Chesterfield inspired sofa needed. The textures on these pillows against the leather creates such an interesting contrast. If you need me, you know where to find me!

Pumpkin sprinkle

Yes, I call this the pumpkin sprinkle because compare to other years, I’ve decided to scatter them around in our living room. You’ll find some pumpkins in our coffee table, the wall shelves and if you look closely, even our kitchen.

Indulge in pretty things

Now is the perfect time to make your home and yourself happy. One of my main goals when decorating a space is to create an ambiance where I can feel at my best. During the summer I gave my living room’s floor a rest by removing the sisal rug. But for fall this area needed a softer material to make tired feet feel like in heaven. This Grant Rug from Grandin Road brings both comfort and a luxurious feeling into our living room.

Adding warmth into this space doesn’t stop with pumpkins and pillows. Wood furniture pieces can also enhance the room and these Bermuda Teak chairs from Grandin Road do more than that. They offer the perfect spot to sit and relax after a long day. But one of the mayor reasons that made me fell in love with these chairs were the cane details. When I was a little kid I remember how I used to sit in my  grandmother’s lap while she sing to me in her wooden rocking chair with the same webbing as these chair. Those memories are priceless!

This season I’m taking the time to create comfort in my surroundings. Setting a fall mood in the living room is just the beginning of many things I’m planning to do to incorporate that cozy feeling in our home. Has fall arrived into your home, or do you prefer and extension on summer?

I was trying to wait until the temperatures reflected my desire for Fall, but your post has made me decide I really shouldn’t wait that long for Fall pretties in my house.
