Unveiling our rustic yet modern kitchen space

I feel honored as a blogger and interior designer (sharing with my followers all the details about this kitchen renovation) that Build.com has been an important sponsored of this project. The opinions stated in Unveiling our rustic yet modern kitchen space are my own. For more about their products and newest trends in home renovation, you can always follow them on FacebookTwitter, and Instagram.

Back in September my husband and I embarked on a big construction journey in our house (read all about it here). We decided that it was time to make an extreme change that will enable the space to keep growing. I decided that the first big movement that needed to happened was the kitchen. The existing one was starting to feel small and after a thorough study of the house’s footprint, the best place to move the kitchen was to our garage. Today’s blog post is all about unveiling our rustic yet modern kitchen space. I really hope you’ve been following along in my blog and on Instagram for some interesting behind the scenes.

Cabinet, countertops and all the things

Finding a great cabinet company can be challenging. A good idea would be to ask around for recommendations or to simply go online. For our kitchen I researched Instagram and found several companies that worked in the area. The good thing about this search was that I was able to see their work (recent and old ones) and get a better sense of their line of style.

Earth Sourced Design was the company that helped me in bringing my idea to life in terms of cabinets. Their knowledge and attention to details were an important key element in the creation of  this kitchen.

After the cabinets were installed, countertops where the next item on my list. And oh my, what a difficult decision! Today there are many materials being used for countertops. One of the most resistant ones is quartz. For our kitchen, I chose Silestone in Calaccata Gold because of its modern look. I love the simplicity of this stone and the light brown-ish (gold) colors. Just perfect for our kitchen!

Bringing beauty to the main window area

The right kitchen accessories will definitively enhance the final design. I always knew that I wanted to used brass for my kitchen faucets. Here I’m using the Brizo Litze Single Handle Angled Spout SmartTouch available at Build.com. One of the main features of this faucet is the SmartTouch where you can turn the water on and off with a simple touch of the spout. Now there will be no more sticky faucets after working with cookie dough. Also, the Brizo Litze will automatically turn off if it has been running water for a couple of minutes. Talk about incredible technology!

For our sink, I wanted the simplicity of a farm sink. In our old kitchen we used to have a 20″ sink (I really don’t know how we handle that), so going up in size was a huge upgrade for us. I chose for our kitchen the Signature Hardware Reinhard 30″ Farmhouse (Single Basin Fireclay Kitchen Sink) and let me tell you, it is a game-changer. Fireclay is a very strong material made from ceramic being molded at extreme temperatures. The size and material of this sink makes it ideal for our family of 5. (*Don’t forget the Signature Hardware 27-1/2″ Stainless Steel Basin Rack for Farmhouse Sinks to protect and prolong the life of your sink and the Signature Hardware 3-1/2″ Garbage Disposal Stopper with Flange for Sinks up to 1-1/4″ Thick for those using a garbage disposal system.)

I present to you the pot filler

Pot fillers are amazing artifacts that make filling those heavy pots an easy task. They can either be mounted on the wall over the range, or simply be added to the side on an area close to the range. Their main purpose it to fill pots easily while on the range (or cooktop) without having to go back and forth to the kitchen sink. I’ve been dying to use one so this kitchen project was the perfect opportunity to do so.  I chose for this space the Delta Champagne Bronze 24″ Wall-Mounted Pot Fillerbecause it’s classic style with a modern twist was ideal for this kitchen.

Anchoring the design over the island

Coming from the front door, our island is the first focal point for our guests.  Anchoring the design from this point forward became one of my design priorities. To do that I chose a set of pendants that would resonate with the rest of the space. At Build.com I found several amazing options that could easily fit in this area. But my heart skipped a beat with the Hinkley Lighting Cartwright 3 Light 19-1/2″ Wide Pendants. The brass color of these fixtures plus the black farmhouse style straps were a perfect accents. The Hinkley Lighting Cartwright comes in three different widths (11 1/2″, 15 1/4″, 19 1/2″) and for this space I’m using the 19 1/2″.

I really love our new kitchen space. Everything from the floor tiles to the arched windows are part of my design’s concept. This idea was inspired by the architectural details found on classic Spaniard buildings in Puerto Rico. Shaker style kitchen cabinets, quartz countertops and brass kitchen finishes were used to add a modern touch to the space. It is a major honor to have been able to share the unveiling of our rustic yet modern kitchen space and I really hope to have inspired many of you.
