These days we’re living we really some of us really want two things, to feel relax and to go outside. But for everyones’s safety because of the novel virus, we should limit our outings and adapt to a new normal. So to keep us busy and productive, updating out patios or gardens seems to be trending (along baking and yoga). While shopping is limited I’ve decided to embark in a virtual journey into the future guest house and its surroundings.
Deck the floor
While a deck area can seem so bland at times, adding plants can bring life to this spot. In my future space I’m envision having a collection of rustic looking planters with drought tolerant plants. The surface of these accessories will play beautifully with the roughness of the wood deck. Because I love the serenity symmetry can bring into a space, adding groups of 3 on each side of the entrance to the guest house would be idea.
Another great idea to style decks (or any outdoor area) are the raised planters. Besides using them to add a tad of privacy, you can plant here herbs and other simple plants used for cooking. Because of their height these would be idea to keep floor predators at bay.
Having a sitting in this area that is both comfortable and modern is a must. See below for some of my top picks. A coffee table comes in handy as well for those refreshments or early morning coffee.
Sitting with style
I’ve been loving those big and chunky wicker hanging chairs for awhile. In the future guest house I’m envisioning 2 of them hanging right in front of the folding glass doors. Imagine those cool nights sitting here with doors wide open and a glass of wine!
Outdoor/indoor living is not completed without a dining table. Keeping it simple but modern is key. Since I’m keeping mine indoor, I’m going a step farther and adding seats with a cane backing (which I’m loving so much lately, see my cane laundry doors here). A simple rustic vase will do the trick as a center piece evoking those planters from the deck.
A virtual journey into the future guest house literally open a window of possibilities. By designing this virtual space I was able get a better sense of how it will feel and work.
